Beanstream offers a variety of credit card holder authentication
services. These services may be integrated as part of a payment
processing solution, or configured separately through an ease
to use web interface. Information can be used to validate credit card
orders or screen applications submitted by consumers. The services are
easy to use and can be customized to suit your specific business
requirements. When used in conjunction with our authentication
services, our risk management suite provides best of class
functionality.
Address Verification Service (AVS)
AVS attempts to validate US and selected Canadian
cardholders by matching their address and zip code (postal
code) against the information stored at the card issuing bank.
AVS is a good basic verification service but may only be used
to validate the address and zip code (postal code) of US and
selected Canadian credit card holders. The service is available to
merchants internationally.
Negative Card Filter
This feature allows you to screen or block transactions from credit
card numbers that are known to be fraudulent. In addition, you can
optionally block credit cards that other merchants have flagged as
well.
Negative IP Filter
This feature allows you to screen or block transactions from IP
addresses or IP address ranges that you do not wish to
accept transactions from.
Velocity Controls
This feature allows us to set limits on transactional value and volume
within a pre-defined time interval. This feature is useful in
preventing a fraudster from attempting to process multiple orders
and/or attempting to use different credit cards for the same order.
Card Verification Digits
Most credit cards now include a 3 or 4 digit verification number, which
is not part of the regular credit card number. CVD seeks to
ensure that the purchaser has the physical card in hand when placing a
phone, mail, or Internet order, and to verify that the card account is
legitimate. The number is not contained in the magnetic strip
information nor does it appear on sales receipt.
Anonymous Proxy Detection
The Beanstream system will reject transactions from known anonymous
proxies. Proxies are used to hide the identity or IP address of the
person making a credit card purchase and are frequently used by
fraudsters.
Country and Geographic IP Location
This is an IP filtering system that identifies transactions from
countries that are routinely used by fraudsters for credit card and
identity theft. It can also correlate the users location along with the location of
their bank and their stated address to identify suspect orders.
Valid Referring Web Site
This feature allows a merchant to designate the URL from which
Beanstream allows a transaction to take place. This is an additional
level of security that insures that Beanstream will only process
transactions from authorized and
authenticated merchants.
Inventory Price Validation
Beanstream allows merchants to upload a copy of their inventory
information and pricing to our secure web servers. When a customers
processes a payment transaction, this information can then be used to
validate the price of an order to ensure that it has not been altered.
PGP Signing and Encryption
PGP Signing and PGP Encryption are optional
additional security methods that prevent the modification of
transaction data being submitted for processing. By using
PGP, Beanstream can verify that the transaction request has originated
from the indicated merchant and that no transaction data has been
modified prior to submission. PGP uses public/private key
signing and encryption to verify the sender and data contained in the
transaction. This feature is available only when used in conjunction
with our 'Server to Server Transaction API'.
