Restricted Businesses/Prohibited Items
If you already have your own merchant accounts, Beanstream will not place any additional restrictions on your processing activities. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with your merchant agreements.
If you do not have merchant accounts and you are
seeking them from Beanstream, please note that we have restrictions that
have been placed upon us by our banking partners. Beanstream is not
permitted to provide merchant accounts to several types of businesses
outlined below.This list is updated from time to time and because it is
non-exhaustive, may also be extended at the sole discretion of
Beanstream. We may include merchandise or services as advised by
Beanstream's banking partners.
You are responsible for reviewing and complying with this list before you elect to obtain merchant accounts from Beanstream.
- Lottery tickets
- Collection agency services
- Cheque cashing services
- Time share sales
- Gambling or online casinos
- Extended car warranties except major car dealerships
- Weight loss vitamins and pills or powders
- Cult material
- Pre-paid phone cards
- Bail
- Pyramid sales or multilevel marketing distribution
- Satellite television sales, except if legal in Canada
- Cable television or satellite dish de-scramblers
- Live animals or illegal animal parts
- Bulk email lists
- Counterfeit items
- Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
- Embargoed items (e.g. Cuban cigars sent to the USA)
- Adult items (e.g. pornography, escort or call services, massage, videos etc.)
- All firearms, including antique, collectible, sport and hunting firearms.
- All weapons, including military, illegal or explosive
- Pirated Software or de-scrambling software
- Pirated movies and music, including pre-releases or promotionals
- Police badges or any type of false identification
- Travel agencies or airline tickets
- Sports forecasting or odds making
- Lotteries
- Web hosting
These guidelines do not pertain to any particular company's practices. Beanstream and its banking partners have also adopted certain policies regarding prohibited items, regardless of the legality of the item.
